The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is devoted to supporting local artists and promoting art and culture in the area. From funding opportunities to gallery exhibitions, performances, artist calls, and more, the Council strives to make sure that art and culture are an essential part of the community. In West Palm Beach, art is everywhere - from public and private spaces to distinctive visual arts, green spaces, historic and contemporary architectural treatments, and captivating murals. The Cultural Council believes that art and culture in The Palm Beaches can create a stronger economy and boost tourism; unite and engage communities; and improve education at all levels.
To this end, they have collaborated with local artists to create unique works of art that reflect the identity of the community. For instance, Garth Edwards designed and installed Garden Gate at the Garden Branch Library, which was inspired by Palm Beach Gardens' early vision of becoming a garden city. The boys and girls clubs of the Palm Beach County Gym (Bill Bailey Community Center) also collaborated with an artist to transform white plywood into a colorful community. The Cultural Council also works with other organizations to create works of art that pay homage to the county's dedication and commitment to people and the community.
For example, they collaborated with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office on a cast glass sculpture. Additionally, they worked with the Palm Beach County Library on Productive Light, a luminous sculptural installation that was inspired by orange groves. The Cultural Council also established the Cultural Defense Alliance to bring together leaders of cultural organizations and the creative sector of Palm Beach County. This committee is an extension of their advocacy work and includes board members from the Cultural Council as well as representatives from other advocacy partners across the county.
They advocate for full funding for the Art Division's matching grant program, & Culture, which provides works of art that complement public buildings, parks, and squares. Finally, they collaborated with local artists on a 16-foot sculpture at West Palm Beach Intermodal Transportation Facility that welcomes travelers arriving by bus, train, or car. The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is committed to supporting local artists and promoting art and culture in The Palm Beaches. Through collaborations with local artists, organizations, and advocacy partners, they are working hard to make sure that art is an integral part of the community.
